Sinister Six Gets Release Date/Amazing Spider-Man 3 Pushed Back

After my Batman Begins and Dark Knight Rises reviews, I now have some intense Amazing Spider-Man news to share my thoughts with y’all.

So the first announcement is the easier one, so I’ll breeze right through that one with an overview. The Sinister Six movie has been confirmed and is set for release on November 11th, 2016. My thoughts on Sinister Six are this: I don’t think one needs to happen, but I’m interested to see where they’re going with it. I know Drew Goddard is heavily involved in the project, and I have faith in him, so the movie should be pretty entertaining.

And speaking of entertaining, my background with the previous two Amazing Spider-Man movies are this: I though the first one was alright, and I really enjoyed the second one. That being said, I do recognize that Amazing Spider-Man 2 had its issues, but I am still going to see Sinister Six and I am still going to see Amazing Spider-Man 3. I know that Amazing Spider-Man 2 didn’t do as well as its predecessors, and let’s evaluate that. Studio mind set is really funny. The movie did really well, clocking in at about $700-million, but the studio just put too much money into it. The budget was increased too much, and it was almost set-up to for less of a success. Not failure, because the movie didn’t fail, just less of a success. That being said, I think Sony said, “push it back, so we have four full years to redeem ourselves from the second one.” It’s like they’re out for a run, and they need to catch their breath and jog for a little while before sprinting again.

Is it a bummer that we now have to wait four years until we see Spider-Man again? Completely. But if the studio has taken a step back and recognized that more time is needed to make this movie the best movie it can be, then I’m glad Sony recognizes that. As long as they don’t start throwing in weird casting choices and an onslaught of characters like Batman vs. Superman, then we’re good.

But speaking of characters, this was also exciting for me because the movie could now get back Shailene Woodley as Mary-Jane Watson! I had heard a rumor somewhere that Shailene wouldn’t be playing Mary-Jane because of the Divergent sequels filming schedules, but by 2017 when the movie is filming, the final Divergent movie will have already come out. Some people on the Internet have bashed the choice of Shailene Woodley as Mary-Jane Watson, but I think it’s perfect. She’s so cute an likable, I can imagine her interacting with Andrew Garfield really well in the film. In fact, she’s the only actress I can think of off the top of my head that is more likable and cute than Emma Stone…

The only other complaint (besides not seeing Spidey for four years) is that Andrew Garfield will be 35 when the movie is coming out. And he’s playing a 20 year-old. Hmm…

But other than some time passing and older actors, I think that it’s very professional of Sony to step back and take their time on making this decision. As for Sinister Six, it will probably be fine judging by the premise, but I don’t feel it’s entirely necessary.

  1. That’s quite a delay. I’ll be almost 30 by the time the next Spidey comes out. I was expecting them to do a #3 first to maybe establish the rest of the members of the Sinister Six before making a Sinister Six movie, but I guess we’ll see how it turns out.
