Lava Review

Preface/Premise

Alrighty, I don’t typically review many SUPER obscure things here on My Movie Thoughts but part of what makes it fun is that I can when I want to.
So for example: if I were to ask you what “Lava” is, you’d probably say that red hot magma stuff that comes out of volcanoes.
Lava is also the name of the newest Pixar short film airing before Inside Out.
It’s only 7 minutes long, but it’s something I haven’t stopped thinking about since I saw Inside Out and even though I loved that movie, I may have loved this short film even more.
So here are my quick thoughts on it!

Inside Out Review

Preface

Pixar is back, ladies and gentlemen!
And yeah this is gonna be a short review because there isn’t a ton I want to spoil. The even shorter version: see this movie.

Premise

As I said, I don’t want to spoil too much of this movie for you guys so I’ll keep the description vague but ultimately Inside Out is a little hard to describe as is…
Inside Out is basically about a girl named Riley and how her five primary emotions (Joy, Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Disgust) work inside her mind.
And it’s so SMART.

Preface/Premise

Some of my friends have asked me, “John, why haven’t you done a post on the Spider-Man casting!?”
- Well because if I did, I would have been wrong like three times… (I still think Ansel Elgort would have been awesome…)
After months upon months of speculation, and rumors and “confirmations” and even more rumors and “confirmations,” Marvel and Sony have finally cast their new Spider-Man and he is: Tom Holland!
And they have Jon Watts directing.
So, let’s talk about it because I love Spider-Man and I’m a fan of this.

Preface

I try not to do episodic reviews of shows because I don’t watch a ton of shows that air week-to-week, I prefer the binge-style format, and when I do, I’m usually proven wrong.

But True Detective is the show, okay.
If you guys don’t know how much I love True Detective, check out my Review of Season 1 here first of all. And when it comes to single seasons of television, the two I currently hail as the greatest single seasons of all time, the ones I reference in prayer to the TV gods are Breaking Bad Season 5 and True Detective Season 1.
I loved the first season of True Detective so much that I literally lent my DVD of it to my English teacher! (Who also loved it.)
Therefore, going in, I wasn’t expecting Season 2 to be nearly as good but this first episode was very decent overall.

Premise

So True Detective is a show on HBO that began airing last year in Season 1 with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
But it’s an anthology style show, so Season 2 has a brand new cast and a brand new case to be solved.
Among that new cast is Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch, and Vince Vaughn.
And this first episode is mainly setting up these characters for the rest of the season, not dealing too much with the case.
And even though I won’t be including too many spoilers, I’m gonna issue an official SPOILER WARNING.
So if you haven’t seen this episode, feel free to check it out, I do recommend it, then come back and read the rest!

Preface

Clueless is a movie that I saw a few years back and ultimately I didn’t like too much for some reasons I’ll discuss in this review.
But then I re-watched it upon special request and have a different opinion which I’m more happy to talk about!

Premise

So Clueless is about teen life in L.A. in the 90s, and particularly about the shenanigans of one girl named Cher and her friends.
The movie doesn’t have one, set, particular storyline to it from beginning to end but these escapades ultimately tie together in a really neat way.
