I was going to do more horror movie reviews this past October, but I’m a busy guy and frankly, I would be embarrassed revealing some of the ones I hadn’t seen.
That being said: Scream is my favorite horror movie ever. I saw it for the first time about a year ago, and I’ve watched it about three or four times since then.
For those of you unaware, Scream isn’t just some slasher-flick horror film. Scream is a very meta film that makes fun of the horror genre in a very unique and effective manner. And that’s really what makes this film great.
All of the characters in the movie seem like real people, and no one is irrelevant. You know who each of the people are, and actually care about each one. My favorite, personally, is Randy just because he’s the biggest movie fan of them all. Which leads me to the next reason why they’re all awesome: each character is a movie nerd. This is the movie universe I would be the most popular in!
I won’t touch much on the actors because, like I said, they all work really well for their really well-developed characters.
And the script is surprisingly well written. Not just the meta stuff either, a lot of the dialogue was clever and extremely natural.
The kills weren’t extremely bloody, but had enough gore (without being Saw) and enough creativity (without being Final Destination) to function.
I don’t have a ton to say about this movie because there isn’t much else to say, other than Scream is…
A 5/5
