Preface
- Alright, I’m just gonna link the trailer here cuz I have no witty remarks, and just want to talk about THIS.
Trailer Talk
- I love the way this trailer started out, because that’s how you start off a trailer.
- Creepy narration from, I assume, Andy Serkis? I think…
- It did sound an AWFUL LOT like Cumberbatch though…
- Then cut to John Boyega who likes like he’s in the middle of something intense on Tatooine!
- I love how you can hear the Jawas in the background too.
- This is perfect because it shows immediately that there is a huge threat right now, not like the prequels where, “oh, we’ll get to it!”
- Then immediately following that we see a droid that has a head and is kinda bobbling around on a ball-of-a-body.
- This is where I first took note of how practical the trailer (and hopefully the film) looked.
- It has a very 70’s-80’s-ish feel, and that’s awesome!
- Then you got these Stormtroopers about to jump out of a ship, and it looks like the trailer of Godzilla meets the trailer of Edge of Tomorrow with its grittiness and sci-fi action.
- Also, I’m assuming the character who raises his gun is John Boyega, but I could be wrong.
- He was wearing Stormtrooper body armor in the first shot.
- Then quick shots of Daisy Ridley and (I’ll be honest, I have no idea who the other actor was), and they’re piloting these really neat looking crafts.
- The shot of the three fighter ships all synchronized across this beautiful landscape looked like it could have been the money shot of this trailer, but it wasn’t.
- First money shot was the one immediately following this.
- The Sith lord, or Sith guy, who ignited his lightsaber, and two beams came out of the sides above his hand.
- Finally someone puts a hand guard on….
- And during that shot I loved the voiceover.
- It was just creepy enough to get the vibe I was wanting, but it was also really cool that the Sith acknowledged the existence of “the light side,” and we cut to the next couple money shots of the trailer.
- I loved the new snow planet too, which I’m assuming isn’t Hoth.
- If it were Hoth, it would just be like this barren behemoth of an ice
- It just has the evil feel to it.
- And then the trailer-stealer. Actually, the game-stealer.
- Millennium Falcon
- We had heard for months that the Falcon would probably show up in this movie, but when I saw it flying around and flipping through Tatooine, I was brought back 12 years to my very first time watching the original Star Wars as a child.
- Because keep in mind, we haven’t seen the Falcon in these movies since Return of the Jedi.
- Seeing the Millennium Falcon back in action made my day.
- We had heard for months that the Falcon would probably show up in this movie, but when I saw it flying around and flipping through Tatooine, I was brought back 12 years to my very first time watching the original Star Wars as a child.
- I loved the music that played over this trailer too.
- The ominous tone that played for the first minute, and of course the Star Wars theme that rolled over the last twenty second or so.
- Millennium Falcon
- Also, I’m assuming the character who raises his gun is John Boyega, but I could be wrong.
- This is where I first took note of how practical the trailer (and hopefully the film) looked.
- Creepy narration from, I assume, Andy Serkis? I think…
Wrap Up
- Ultimately, I think Star Wars: The Force Awakens is going to do what George Lucas originally set out to do with the prequels: make Star Wars movie using 21st century technology.
- I loved every millisecond of this teaser and the only bad thing about it is that I have to wait another 385 days before I can see the whole movie.
- They better play the next one before Age of Ultron or sooner.
- I also found it curious that none of the old cast was shown…
