Thank You Guys!!

  • Believe it or not, this is already my 100th Post on My Movie Thoughts!
  • I was thinking of what movie to review, or what news to cover in celebration of this event, but instead I think a thank you is order.
  • I just started this blog in June of this year, and I’m impressed with myself for making it this far, and for you all for supporting me.
  • It isn’t my wish to share exact statistics here, but the summer had a great viewership, September and October a little less (naturally so), but still remaining over 100 people (visitors, not views), and November 2014 was the biggest month yet with around 250 visitors.
    • These numbers probably seem small, but for someone who is only about 6 months into this experience, it’s great.
  • I understand that watching a video review is probably a lot more appealing and entertaining, so I appreciate all of you old fashioned folks who keep on comin’ back here.
    • I am going to do 3 videos for the end of the year though.
      • Top 5 Worst of 2014
      • Top 10 Best of 2014
      • And then the last will either be a preface to those two, introducing myself and explaining the process, or a Most Anticipated of 2015.
        • Whichever isn’t a video will be in print-form here.
  • So again, thank you guys so much for motivating me to get to my 100th post, and I expect to only do more from here!!

September 2014 Update

Hello All! Every now and again I’ll do these informal breaking-the-fourth-wall type talks (which is weird since I break the fourth wall in my reviews all the time?) where I’ll just give you guys a small update on what’s going on if you haven’t seen content in more than a few days.

The update for right now is: I’m back in school, so I will be a bit pressed for time and only be able to put out reviews/miscellaneous posts one or two days a week. When I say that however, it means that you guys can expect A TON of content on those days (probably Saturday and Sunday).

Since it’s September and there aren’t a ton of new movies coming out, I was thinking to myself how I would review movies with fresh eyes, before realizing there are like a crap ton of classic (or retro classic) movies I’ve never seen before. By classic I mean past 20-35 years classic. Example(s): Fight Club, The Usual Suspects or even Sweet Sixteen (and you can click each for my reviews of Reservoir Dogs and American Psycho). There are a lot more not coming to mind, but you can expect reviews of those since I’ve never seen them and have some new, pretty unbiased eyes. (I’m going to turn to the horror genre a bit in October too.) I’ll also throw in a ‘My Favorite of All Time’ review every now and then. Along with all news (which I’ll get out the day it breaks) and pilot reviews, as it is pilot season. I’m trying to cut back a little bit on the TV reviews as it is ‘My Movie Thoughts’, but after mid-October I’ll have hardly any until the end of the television season.

Regardless, thank you guys all for sticking around, I’m so happy that this site is maintaining pretty reasonable numbers. And keep spreading the word and commenting your opinions!

And as always, thanks for reading guys.

Most Anticipated Movies for the Rest of 2014

At the beginning of the year, a friend of mine who enjoys movies too asked me which ones I was looking forward to this year. I could have made a Top 10 Most Anticipated of 2014, but I thought it would be more effective to come up with 5 films from January through August that included all the summer blockbusters, and then do another 5 for September through December discussing potential Oscar films and others I was less aware of in January. As I’ll do with my Top 10 Best of the year and Top 5 Worst of the Year, I will do some honorable mentions at the end.

Without further a-don’t, let’s get started then!

Summer Movie Season 2014 Roundup

The other day on The Huffington Post, I saw an article explaining why this summer was one of the worst for movies ever. Wait, really?

I mean financially, sure. I can understand that. But since I’m just a dude who enjoys talking about movies for pleasure, and looks at them for really fun and really cool movies (not just money-makers), I decided to do a post on why this summer was awesome for movies.

I didn’t start doing formal movie reviews until roughly the first/second week of June, so I didn’t get to talk about any of the May releases. Here I will give some brief thoughts though on those as they appear. But first, let’s look at the big picture.
