Editorial: Why Star Wars Actually Matters
Why Star Wars Actually Matters
an Editorial for My Movie Thoughts (and English Essay…) by, John Hayeck
In the 2001 census, the necessary number of people listed “the Force” as their subscribed belief system for Jediism to now legally be listed as a legitimate religion. (“Jedi Makes the Census List”) As a fan of movies since childhood, I am very much looking forward to this month’s release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. As my passion for film has grown over the years, I have discovered more of the impressive social impact that the Star Wars franchise has on all of its fans and the world as a whole, the Jediism faith being just one example. In looking further at this overall impact, the original Star Wars trilogy (1977-1983) strongly influenced the future of film to come after it, and the prequel trilogy (1999-2005) established a line of strategic merchandising incomparable to any other series. These two accomplishments are in a class of their own, and are just two of the many achievements that helped Star Wars take over the galaxy.
Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies Fall 2015
Preface
- Hello, hello everybody!
- That time of the year has come around where the summer movie season is just about over and we’re starting to move into the time of year where some really strong and emotional movies hit, trying to win some Oscar votes.
- So last year, I did a Top 5 Most Anticipated for the Rest of 2014, but this year there were SO many that I wanted to do a Top 10.
- But I also wanted to be fair and not include movies like Joy or The Hateful Eight, cuz those movies were on my Top 10 Most Anticipated for ALL of 2015, and just update you guys on some other movies I’m really excited for.
- So here we go!
Top 8 Best High School Movies
Preface
- Hello Everybody!
- Well with school starting up around-ish this time nationwide (including for myself this coming Friday), I thought it would be fun to do another Top _ List.
- I LOVE coming of age movies, and I love high school movies.
- There’s so much fun to be had in high school, and it’s a great setting to have an entertaining movie set in.
- Just for clarification, on this list a ‘high school movie’ is a movie where the characters are in high school, high school age (sorry 21 Jump Street), and it has realistic and everyday teenage conflicts (sorry Back to the Future and Scream).
- So I found 8 that I love, and here they are!
Box Office Breakdown: Summer 2015
Preface
- Hello, hello everybody!
- So I’m not a huge numbers guy.
- I’m good at math but it isn’t fun to do…
- But this summer, there were some really impressive records that were set or broken or both at the domestic and worldwide box office that I want to talk about.
- Some of them could merit their own individual posts and others are smaller, so I decided to just summarize them all in this ‘end of summer’ breakdown post.
- And these numbers are all subject to change, but as of August 25th or so, this is what we got.
- And I’ll have my Top 10 (yeah, there’s a few more than last year…) Most Anticipated of the Fall coming at you guys real soon too.
- But let’s talk numbers!
