Preface

The Gift is a movie that I’ve wanted to see for more than a couple months now and I was not disappointed by it.
The Gift stars Jason Bateman, Rebecca Hall, and Joel Edgerton.
It was also written and directed by Joel Edgerton in his directorial debut. And it was a GREAT movie for a first time director.
And it’s about this couple played by Bateman and Hall who move to California and run into this weird guy Gordo (Edgerton) who went to high school with Bateman’s character. And after they start interacting with Gordo, some weird stuff starts to happen…

Man the second half of this movie was really impressive!
- And the first half was really not…
Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s French accent was good though. Didn’t see that coming!

Man, it has been a WHILE since we’ve done some TV talk here on My Movie Thoughts!
And there IS a reason for that.
Movies are great, they’re my favorite thing. Movies are also easy, they’re much less time-consuming.
TV takes a lot of time to watch. If I’m reviewing a bad movie, I just have to sit through for 90 minutes or two hours, then rant about it, and go back to the theater the next week to hopefully see something better.
With TV, I’m not gonna sit through something for 6-10 seasons if it’s mediocre just to do a review. (Unless that show is Parks and Rec, ohhhh burn!) Unless I hear great things and enjoy the first few episodes, then I’m not gonna spend my time on it, when I could be watching a bunch of movies or hanging out with my friends instead.
But…. There are still a few shows that I do watch on a week-by-week basis. The Walking Dead, and Better Call Saul.
Arrow hasn’t elevated to that category yet because I binged Seasons 1 and 2 during November of last year, and Season 3 was already about halfway over and I didn’t feel like catching up til it was on Netflix.
Well today, Season 3 is on Netflix, so here are my thoughts on a show that I DO definitely recommend you spend your time on!
- I’ll start watching Season 3 tonight then immediately regret everything I’m about to say…

So, The Martian is the newest movie from Ridley Scott starring Matt Damon and a laundry list of other celebrities.
And it’s about Mark Watney (Damon) who is left on Mars, with few resources to survive in the aftermath of a mission gone awry.
Now we’ll get this out of the way first: yes, this is a VERY good movie.
No, I don’t think it’s the Messiah that a lot of other critics have been praising it to be though… Sorry!

So Sicario is kind of a smaller movie, and it’s the newest movie from director Denis Villeneuve. He directed Prisoners, one of my Top 15 All-Time Favorite Movies, and he’s doing the new Blade Runner, and the guy really has a good eye so I couldn’t wait to see his next project.
And Sicario can be described 1 of 3 ways.
It’s exactly like the director of Prisoners did a drug cartel movie.
It’s like Seven meets The Usual Suspects meets Breaking Bad.
It’s awesome. But kinda “hard to watch” awesome.
And it was my most Anticipated Movie for the Rest of 2015, besides Star Wars!
