Moonlight Review

There are a lot of films released nowadays that are victims of far too much hype. I remember in the past year alone, Deadpool and Finding Dory were two perfectly adequate films that I liked. However, going in, I had been told that these were “the greatest films ever!” and “movies you’re never going to forget!” With those heightened expectations, I went in and was disappointed when I found each to only be “okay…”

Moonlight has been similarly hyped. Though often times it occurs with blockbusters, Oscar movies can fall victim to this syndrome as well. (Spotlight and The Revenant were two from last year, in my own personal opinion.) Given all of the awards and a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes, I was somewhat nervous going into Moonlight. But don’t be fooled, this ISN’T one of those cases.

Moonlight is an emotional, well-crafted, important film for this year.

A Series of Unfortunate Events Review

If the definition of a sadist is someone who enjoys seeing the pain of others, then A Series of Unfortunate Events has already begun creating a whole new generation of little sociopaths.

In Netflix’s new adaptation of the Lemony Snicket book series, three children (Violet, Klaus, and Sunny) discover that their parents have perished in a terrible fire. In the aftermath of this tragedy, the orphans are ushered to a new guardian, Count Olaf (Neil Patrick Harris). However, the Count’s only interest in the children is their enormous fortune. Until it can be seized, he forces them to do remedial and disgusting labor around his decaying household.

Five Directors Who Should Take Over THE BATMAN

Over the past two months, the DC Cinematic Universe has been falling to pieces. I, personally, am a fan of MAN OF STEEL and BATMAN V. SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. However, both BATMAN V. SUPERMAN and SUICIDE SQUAD were divisive to say the least. On top of that, THE FLASH is starting from scratch, Ryan Reynolds is back in the mix for GREEN LANTERN CORPS. (…?), and new spinoff movies seem to be replacing the properties DC was comfortable with just a few years ago…

NOW, the worst of it all may have just landed: Ben Affleck has dropped out of directing THE BATMAN. The actor will still star in the film, but Variety reports that he mutually dropped out of the director’s chair while discussing the film with Warner Brothers. Yikes…

So the big question arises: who SHOULD direct THE BATMAN? Matt Reeves, known for CLOVERFIELD and DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, is rumored to be on the shortlist, but there are surely more on that list. AND I’ve always thought about who would be cool to helm a Batman movie.

So while we’re all speculating, here are five incredible directors who would be AMAZING for THE BATMAN.
