DC Reveals Official Slate Through 2020!

There is a TON of news running around the Internet. Just as I was sitting down to do my thoughts on Robert Downey Jr. in Captain America 3, this gargantuan piece of movie news hit the web.

Also, let it be known that I did a post a few months ago discussing the “leaked slate” that turned out to be false. This one’s from a good source (Mr. DC) so let’s talk about it!

The first bit of news coming out of this DC Announcement is Ezra Miller has been cast as Barry Allen/The Flash. When I first saw that on my Facebook timeline, I thought to myself, “huh, that’s weird… But it might just be great.” And I’ll be the first to say it: I did not see that announcement coming. Everyone was expecting Scoot McNairy to be Flash (I personally thought he’d be Nightwing), and DC really surprised us, this time for the better. I think if Ezra Miller brings the energy that he has, but doesn’t give too much energy, his version of Flash could be really effective.

Then the next bit of news is the first DC movie after Batman v. Superman, and that movie is Suicide Squad. I didn’t even know what Suicide Squad was until a couple weeks ago when they mentioned it on AMC Movie Talk, and in all honesty: it sounds like it could be a really cool movie. I also think it’s in a really effective place in terms of release dates, since Batman v. Superman will probably lead into Justice League, and you can’t have a standalone in there if the Justice League is all together already.

Speaking of the Justice League, they’re hauling into theaters in 2017 along with a Wonder Woman movie. I’ve always said that the only thing that would have been cooler than the Avengers would have been a Justice League movie, and my main criticism of it all along was that DC didn’t seem to have a plan. Now, they have a plan, all the actors are praising the Batman v. Superman script and I can officially be excited for Justice League (that, and ya know, it now has a release date!).

Wonder Woman is also coming out in 2017. Duh? We all knew Wonder Woman would get her own movie, and I can’t comment on it too much since we haven’t seen the character in film yet, and I’ve never seen Gal Gadot act before, so……

Then Aquaman and Flash will be coming out in 2018, which I will be interested in seeing, especially the former. Flash has a TV show now, so everyone will complain the movie isn’t as good, but this is Aquaman’s turn to prove he’s awesome too!

In 2019, Shazam and Justice League Part Two are coming out. My only surprise is that Shazam is coming out this late in the schedule since we already have an actor attached. But Justice League Part Two, man, I hope they make it awesome.

And finally in 2020 Green Lantern is being rebooted and Cyborg gets his own movie. I’ve been wanting a new Green Lantern since the Ryan Reynolds piece of trash, but I am surprised they didn’t turn Green Lantern into a TV show. Cyborg will probably be cool, but I want to know that he can hold his own movie first.

And my only other complaints on the matter is that we don’t have a solo Batman film (except for the Lego one). I’m not too worried about that though because I’m sure DC has it planned out and they’re just waiting to announce it. (i.e. Marvel announces Iron Man 4, the next day “The Batman” set for 2019!) I’m hoping that’s what’s happening, because if not we could go eight years without a standalone Batman movie, and that my friends is a tragedy.

I am really excited for the next batch of DC movies and I really hope they’re good quality, because if they are, then DC is as good as caught up to Marvel.
