Minions Review

Preface

  • Alright it just broke that Ben Affleck is directing and co-writing the next standalone Batman movie. It’s pretty late at night, I have to wake up early tomorrow so I can only talk about one thing…
  • Yeah Minions is more fresh in my head.
  • And funny enough, I never saw Despicable Me 2…
  • The first Despicable Me I thought was okay, I suppose… Nothing super special.
  • And though this Minions movie wasn’t perfect by any means, I had a pretty good time with it!

Premise

  • Okay, so Minions is the story of those little yellow potato things from the Despicable Me movies, only this time they’re the headliners.
  • This thing takes place in 1968 and it’s the Minions running around in the ‘60s, pulling shenanigans and such.
  • And yeah, it’s very enjoyable.
  • Here is the bottom line up front before I go into the specifics: kids and fans of the Despicable Me movies will LOVE this movie. If you loved the Despicable Me movies, you’ll love this movie too. I wasn’t a Despicable Me fanboy going in, and even then there’s still a lot of fun to be had with this movie, even if it gets fairly stupid at times.

Clueless Review

Preface

  • Clueless is a movie that I saw a few years back and ultimately I didn’t like too much for some reasons I’ll discuss in this review.
  • But then I re-watched it upon special request and have a different opinion which I’m more happy to talk about!

Premise

  • So Clueless is about teen life in L.A. in the 90s, and particularly about the shenanigans of one girl named Cher and her friends.
  • The movie doesn’t have one, set, particular storyline to it from beginning to end but these escapades ultimately tie together in a really neat way.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl – Movie Review

Preface

  • This movie is going to be compared A LOT to The Fault in Our Stars.
  • I actually don’t see it that way.
  • I see it more as The Spectacular Now meets The Perks of Being a Wallflower, and seeing as those are two of my all-time favorite films this movie was pretty good I’d say!

Premise

  • Me and Earl and the Dying Girl is a film that premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival and is one that I actually got to catch a week or two early (depending on when it’s released in your area).
  • The film is about high school senior Greg who’s trying to navigate around high school and understand each of the social groups, but in the meantime his kinda acquaintance Rachel is diagnosed with leukemia. He also makes film parodies with his friend Earl (hey, they’re all in the title!) about the classics.
  • But there’s really so much happening in this movie that’s ultimately so much grander than I described that it’s hard to summarize in just a couple of bullet points.

Better Call Saul Season 1 Review

Preface

  • Welcome back to TV Time on My Movie Thoughts.
  • But this show I’m reviewing? In 10 episodes, Better Call Saul has earned its spot as my favorite show currently on TV. Seriously.

Premise

  • Better Call Saul is a prequel series to Breaking Bad, and follows the crooked lawyer Saul Goodman, before he was Walt and Jesse’s lawyer.
  • But honestly, you don’t need to have watched Breaking Bad to start watching/loving this show, because this show is not remotely like Breaking Bad.
  • And don’t worry, no spoilers lie here.
