Dark Places Trailer Review

Preface

  • I actually just finished reading Gillian Flynn’s novel Dark Places about a week ago.
  • And now the poster just dropped, the trailer just dropped, and I’m excited.
    • Because it looks good.
  • (And yeah I didn’t see the new Age of Ultron trailer because I don’t want the whole movie to be spoiler for me by the time I see it.  So we got Dark Places trailer, and maybe a Mr. Holmes Trailer review also…)

Premise

  • Dark Places is about a woman named Libby Day (played by Charlize Theron) who survives the murder of her three family members as a young girl, and then testifies against her brother who she claims committed the crime.
  • But 30 years later, some crime experts that research the case bring her onto their team and try to prove that her brother may be innocent after all…
  • And don’t worry, no spoilers ahead (cuz like I said, I’ve read the book).

The Duff Review

Preface

  • I saw this movie with my friend Pat DUFFy, more on him later, but naturally that joke needed to be made…

Premise

  • So this movie is basically a Mean Girls-ish high school movie about the technology-based world, and what high school is supposed to be like nowadays.
  • And mainly it focuses on this girl Bianca who is told at a party she is the Duff (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) to her more attractive friends.
  • So with the help of her neighbor/jock friend from childhood, she needs to un-Duff herself, get the guy, and defeat the evil popular girl in school.
  • Yeah, I’ll talk more about that premise later, but let’s talk some positives first!

30 Rock Review

Preface

  • TV reviews, friends. LOTS and lots of TV show reviews are coming your way!
    • Since this is My ‘Movie’ Thoughts, I’ve been limiting my number of TV show reviews over the past few months, but this is one that I wanted to talk about.
    • And yeah, I’m struggling to watch as much Parks and Recreation as I can before that finale (it looks like I might get to the middle of Season 3?), but a review for that will hit in the next month or so.
    • And a Better Call Caul Review, more on that this weekend!
  • But let’s spend some time talking about this unique show!

Final Oscar Predictions 2015

Preface

  • You guys know how much I love the Oscars.
    • The answer, if you’re new to this site, is a lot.
  • Even though we get mad every year about all the snubs (Lego Movie, Jake Gyllenhaal, Gone Girl), it’s the one day of the year where everyone really cares about and loves movies as much as I do all the time.
    • Makes the world a better place…
  • So here are my final predictions for who will win at the big ceremony tonight!
    • I’ve talked about a lot of these in depth before (I’ll link my reviews for each) so I won’t waste wordcounts with a huge amount of explanation.
      • I’ll keep it simple with the nominees list, followed by Will Win and Could Win.
        • Though the whole Could Win thing feels like a bit of a cheat at times, I do feel more confident with all my picks if I have it in ‘second place’.
      • Alrighty, let’s start it up!

Kingsman: The Secret Service Review

Premise

  • Well, it’s official ladies and gentlemen: we have our first great movie of 2015.

Premise

  • (I decided to start adding in this section just because there are people who don’t know what some movies will be about, which is completely fine, not everyone is a huge movie fan all the time. This is for you all!)
  • So Kingsman: The Secret Service is about a secret spy organization–you guessed it, The Kingsman–and it’s more specifically about an agent of the Kingsman who is recruiting a new kid to join them following the death of their former member.
  • And I purposely annotated one of the later trailers above because initially, I didn’t think it looked that good!
    • It looked like that Alex Rider piece-of-crap from my childhood.
    • Anybody else remember that??
  • Luckily, it wasn’t. And this movie could be reviewed in just one word: awesome.
